full moon rising

9.09.2014

last night i watched the the full moon rise over the ridge. there was a slight wind blowing in the aspen trees and their leaves softly clapped. to me, it sounded as though they were applauding the her grand entrance. i make no pretense about my fascination with the moon; her tidal force pulls at my soul and it is never stronger than in september when she assumes the title of harvest moon. even though the equinox on the 22nd marks the first official day of fall, it is the harvest moon that ushers the season in for me. i love the summer with its long days and warm nights, set to the song of the cicada. but i come alive in the fall. autumn is my season and october is my month. remarkable things always happen in the fall: birthdaysanniversaries, and inspiring feats of endurance. but more than the celebrations and festivals, the costumes and candy is the diffused grey of a low hanging fog, the swirl of leaves at your feet, and the earthy bounties. yes, autumn is my season.

when the little ones and i went outside to set-up our breakfast picnic, we were greeted by a mild grey morning. it feels like the early glimpses of fall to me, here in NC. my hearted leaped and i do think my coffee tasted a little sweeter...

What a stunning sight to behold! We never seem to get a good view of the moon from our apartment.

Lovely photo! Happy fall! My birthday is on the 21st of September, and when I was young that day was always the equinox. Even though it's usually technically the 22 now, I always like to count the first day of fall as my birthday, haha. :)

Great photo!
After growing up in a big city with all the lights, noise, etc, when I first came here, it was amazing to me how much more the stars and moon stand out, and how beautiful they are. It's especially nice when you're out in a remote spot, it's very quiet, and you can sit there for ages just taking in the immensity of it all. I'm glad you got to experience it while you were here :-)

It is, first of all, so refreshing to see a blogger acknowledging that Summer isn't over yet. (We still have about half a month!) Secondly, what a great image! You're a true talent.

Yes, September...the quietness of the days, the light arrives at another angle, making the saturation of the colors of the fall, life gets on schedule, sweet nostalgia that fills the air with the perfume of past memories. Maybe your birthday borders with this month that has always been my favorite, at once announcing your favorite season and to me, your arrival to this world...

...your words are sweeter than my coffee this morning, and I like it sweet enough, but my heart got bigger and brighter than the moon last night...because when I got you, you did not come alone!

So beautifully written! I loved this. :) I know what you mean, I thrive in Autumn! I noticed the moon the other night and couldn't help but stand there in awe. It's truly something else and I just love how you captured it so beautifully. :)
