taking stock of august at eighteen months...
reading: a john deere snow day lift-the-flap book, if that counts.
singing: the cha-cha-cha version of happy birthday.
watching: finding nemo only, and without exception.
seeing: our twinkling douglas fir every morning and shouting "tree!"
eating: an entire box of raspberries in record time.
drinking: breast milk twice a day. i am at once amazed + humbled by what our bodies are capable of. #grateful
counting: to in ten in spanish, "uno...do...de...dado...eeno...say...ede...odo...nene...DEY!"
marveling: at snow globes, turning them upside down to wind the music box, and then putting his nose right up to the glass to stare at the scene inside.
hoping: that every stroller ride ends at a park.
wanting: "the broom and the broom", which means the broom + the dust pan that attaches to it.
needing: to sleep past 7am. he woke up at 7:15 two times this week and (everyone) was so much happier those days.
wasting: toilette paper. the fascination began when he was around eight months and has not diminished since.
playing: hide-and-seek in our closet, waiting for us to ask "wherrrre's august?" before he walks out with a sly smile and says "hiding!"
enjoying: helping us in the kitchen
waiting: for me to pick him up at 4:30pm because that's when it gets dark outside now.
laughing: at all of andy's funny voices and silly sounds
wondering: "a' doin'?" when he wants to know what we're up to.
loving: his puchon (pacifier) and reluctantly accepting that it's for night-night only.
smelling: fresh ground coffee every morning when he helps andy make a cup.
wearing: a bolivian chullo to keep his head warm on these cold, cold days.
following: our duck dog around the house holding her kennel relaxin squeaky toy like a bludgeon.
learning: how to throw the kennel relaxin TO duck, not AT her.
noticing: his reflection on the shiny surfaces of the dishwasher + refrigerator and having very animated conversations with himself.
knowing: the difference between his liquid vitamins and the antibiotic medicine we also call "vitamins". one tastes like orange tang, the other like chalky bubble gum. he's not fooled.
thinking: he'll be forgiven for anything by giving hugs + kisses (he usually is).
opening: the drawers in his nightstand and closing them, over and over again.
feeling: andy + my profound and growing love for him. i hope.

Aww! Your son is adorable! Finding Nemo was a good movie, so I don't blame him for watching it too much :P
I could almost hear his little voice counting to ten in Spanish, and I don't even know what he sounds like. This was so sweet! What a fun way to take stock of where everyone is at these milestones.
Hey, August: Finding Nemo is a great choice. xo
you have such a lovely blog! and your son is adoooorable!
This is adorable. I can't really get away with using increments less than a year now with my two - but I am making a notes of this very same list for Ada and Charlie. I feel a new end of year trandition begining...
Gosh, so sweet! "Watching Nemo only" - ah, love that :)
love this post! what a sweetie. we went through a nemo phase too :) what beautiful words and memories to look back on. i love the style of this post too- might need to do one!
Quite the little character, he is!
Also, glad to know I'm not the only one who gets so excited about Christmas trees :-)
yeah, each stage has something awesome and special about it, it never fails to impress me. what a gift! xo
hi Elena and thank you! you're right, finding nemo is a great movie and we probably lucked out considering some of the other kids shows he could've attached to, like Barney or something. ha!
so do you annie and thanks for stopping by! :D
a year-end round up, what a great idea! I wish i would've done this for every milestone since birth, but no better than the present! xox
you should, kaylan! I had so much fun doing it and will love reading back on it in the future. xo
ohmygosh, yes! his personality is really starting to shine through and it is AWESOME. ;)
he's adorable. I just spent another weekend with monsieur's kids and I think I can see some of what you are describing in him. for me it's enough for now to witness this from a distance. it's nice tho!
it's amazing how your heart opens up to it, I swear I wasn't always so gushy. In fact, before I had him i was a lot more like you than you may realize. anyway, now I'm completely done in and head over heels. :)
hi melanie and thank you!!
oh, this reminds me so much of my boys at that age. some things are just universal, like, the fascination with sweeping, opening drawers, discovering their own reflections. such a sweet time.
such a cute photo!
My heart!! What a great kid. So I'm 27 and I also waste toilet paper, unfortunately i can't use my age or fascination as an excuse....darn :)
obsessed is not even the word for it. hahaha!
i should make a vimeo of him counting, it's to die for! <3!
love this list! I need to do this!
