the morning times

10.10.2014

ideally, i'm a morning person. waking up early and enjoying my solitude as the quiet world comes to life, fearlessly facing what lies ahead and embracing the unknown. there's so much possibility that lies within the transition between light and dark. i love the thought of matching my rhythm with daylight, slowly rising with the sun - that natural synchronization which occurs when you are somewhere remote; or the thought of taking it slow and watching the dim morning develop from grey to pink before the sun fully awakens; or lingering over coffee, dreaming and planning. the beginning of a new day is inspiring, full of hope and potential. ideally. there are two ways to fully appreciate mornings: the first comes after restful sleep and the other, by way of incentive. the reality is that i rely on the latter, which in my case is coffee.
when ever i go back down to north carolina, part of the visit involves a tour of my favorite haunts. at the top of that list is the morning times, so much for its COFFEE, that draws you in with its warm buzzing neon, as its locally inspired everything - to me, there are few places more "raleigh". it's a quick IN and OUT (with corresponding doors labeled to help the flow of traffic) for those shuffling down the bar before work or  it's an invitation up creaky wooden steps to linger over espresso dregs in the upstairs gallery. art, coffee, food: all sourced from the community and proudly served with a latte heart. there's a feeling you get from places like that and mornings like those and every time i try to put my finger on it, it comes out dripping in coffee. ;)

Me too! Morning person through and through but more often than not the coffee helps me jump out of bed when i'm included to stay cuddling in the blankets. The in and out doors are so cool and such a great idea!

we love that place too! Only prob is we tend to run into too many people we know; great when you want to be social, but not when you need to be productive. Also, the paint on the walls is awesome in there, isn't it?!

That place looks pretty sweet!
I, however, am not a morning person...I seem to feel most energized and do my best thinking in the late hours of the night :-)

looks great. nothing beats a good coffee shop. I love early mornings too, even though I'm not a morning person at all and it's a struggle to get out of bed each day. I wonder if that's ever going to change... xo

Every time I hear morning people talk about how they love the mornings it makes me wish I was one. however, it's just not in the blood haha

with mornings that start as early as yours, I don't blame you!

lucinda said...

ha! but taking your time getting up offers a slower start to the day and an opportunity to create intention with every action, from getting up until you go back at night, so it's not such a bad thing. ;)

haha, yes. "night owls" have a different but equally great appreciation for a different time of day, though and sometimes, I'd rather stay up late, I totally get it.

Thanks, I know what you mean! I have to visit another state to get to a cool coffee shop! (We mostly only have starbucks where I live. )

My mornings like a little incentive as well. =) What a nice incentive a place like this would be! I wish I had a good coffee place closer to home: for now, we just have to save our coffee dates for times when we're actually in town (not the outskirts thereof). When I worked in a cafe, I so looked forward to seeing my everyday regular customers!

thank you trish, yours are always lovely as well! :)

thanks trina! i've really enjoyed participating in 'between lenses'. as you can see though, my challenge is picking just ONE picture. hahaha! anyway, thanks to you and tara for putting the series together every month, i love it.

Beautiful, beautiful pictures! This looks like such a cute place. I have to ask, where are those black slip ons from? I've been wanting a pair.

I'm not a coffee drinker (well, I was in Paris. When in Rome, and all that) but I do love a good cafe. This place looks heavenly. I love to while away the hours over a nice book and a cup of tea in a place I can take little breaks to people watch. xo

What a cute little shop! I LOVE that first photo, and I can relate to your "rising with the Sun" rhythm... That's what I love about camping. =]

Love this post and the pictures are amazing! My husband works for the company that owns Morning Times and it is my favorite coffee shop around! Love the mornings that there is no traffic and I get to grab one before I move on to work!
